HONEY, HAVE YOU HEARD? You did it. You emerged from the flaming wreckage of 2016, and made it to the other side of the calendar. On the shiny new high-gloss pages of that calendar, there's a whole host of events to help you start the new year right. Check out our first roundup of 2017:

MLA Offsite Poetry Reading
6-11PM at The Rotunda. No, that's not a typo. This reading is FIVE HOURS LONG. Organized by Davy Knittle and Anna Strong, this year's annual MLA Offsite Poetry Reading will feature a COLLOSSAL LINEUP combining local Philly poets and MLA attendees. With over 50 POETS slated to read short but sweet sets, this is sure to be an epic evening.

Philly Pigeon: All-Women & Non-Binary Poetry Slam
First Philly Pigeon of the new year! "Do you live your life as a woman or gender non-binary person? JANUARY IS AN ALL WOMEN'S SLAM. WINNER GETS $300 towards a trip to the Women of the World Poetry Slam.*" This month's feature and workshop leader is Hiwot Adilow, an Ethiopian-american poet and singer-songwriter from Philadelphia who began her career performing with the Philadelphia Youth Poetry Movement (PYPM). $15 Reserved Seating at www.thephillypigeon.com, or take a chance on $10 tickets at the door.

You Can't Kill A Poet Open Mic Story Slam
8PM at Tattooed Mom. The folks at YCKAP are back with an exciting new reading format! Come out to Tattooed Mom on 1/10 and you'll have the chance to join the lineup of the first ever You Can't Kill A Poet STORY SLAM. "Art is resistance and we need a whole lot of that right now. So that's the theme. Resistance. Tell us the stories of your resistance. Tell us how you plan to live a life of resistance as a queer and/or trans identified person in America." Poets, prose writers, and musicians are equally welcome to share up to 8 minutes of work. Free to sign up, but make sure you get there early if you want a slot!

CA Conrad / Brian Teare
8PM at Studio 34: This Fuze features OTTER JUNG ALLEN, Philly's current 17-year-old Youth Poet Laureate, and a former feature of APIARY's YOUTHQUAKE series! If you haven't seen Otter perform yet, you are missing out. Do yourself a favor and hit this up. TICKETED EVENT: $10 adults/just $5 for students!

Writers Resist: Philadelphia United for Liberty
